After reviewing written materials, a committee invites selected candidates to attend a group interview day or an online interview consisting of a sample teaching lesson, discussion group, writing sample, and personal interview. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. All candidates will be notified of their acceptance to the program three weeks after their interview.

Applicants granted interviews will participate in the following stages of the interview process:

Applicants participate in a sample teaching session in which a group of applicants come together in a simulated classroom situation. Each applicant will teach a five-minute lesson appropriate for one grade level from pre-k to 12th grade while the other applicants act as students. The lesson should be prepared before the interview day. An effective lesson has a clear learning objective, engages the class, is well-organized and well-presented, and succeeds in getting the class to attain the learning objective. During the interview day you will receive feedback regarding your teaching sample and will be given an opportunity to redeliver the five-minute lesson.

Applicants participate in a group discussion that is based on an education-related topic. Applicants will be asked to review and think about a related reading in advance. During the discussion, they will be asked to share their thoughts on the reading as well as respond to questions that do not require preparation.

Applicants will be asked to read and respond to a classroom-based scenario. Applicants will have 20 minutes to complete the writing sample. Writing samples should be written in narrative form.

Each applicant participates in an individual interview with a Teach Baton Rouge interviewer to further explore the applicants qualifications and debrief the sample teaching session and discussion group.

If selected for an interview, you will receive additional information prior to the interview day. You must attend the interview date as scheduled or complete the online interview by the required date. There will be no rescheduling of interview dates.
